Serve the child a small piece of plain salmon, a few plain asparagus spears, and a separate dollop of lemon butter on the side for dipping if they like.
Recipe
Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat for 5 minutes.
Season the salmon fillets with 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper. Drizzle with olive oil.
Grill the salmon skin-side down for 4 minutes, then flip and grill for 3–4 minutes more until the fish flakes easily and reaches 63°C internally.
While the salmon grills, snap off the woody ends of the asparagus and toss with remaining 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper.
Grill the asparagus for 3–4 minutes, turning occasionally, until tender and lightly charred. Transfer to a plate.
In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter with the lemon juice and minced garlic, stirring for 2 minutes until fragrant. Do not let it boil.
Serve the salmon and asparagus drizzled with the lemon butter sauce.
