Serve the child a small piece of plain salmon, a few plain asparagus spears, and a separate dollop of lemon butter on the side for dipping if they like.

Recipe

1

Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat for 5 minutes.

2

Season the salmon fillets with 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper. Drizzle with olive oil.

child_care Set aside a small piece of salmon before seasoning for the child.
3

Grill the salmon skin-side down for 4 minutes, then flip and grill for 3–4 minutes more until the fish flakes easily and reaches 63°C internally.

child_care Once cooked, flake the child's portion into small pieces and check for bones.
4

While the salmon grills, snap off the woody ends of the asparagus and toss with remaining 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper.

5

Grill the asparagus for 3–4 minutes, turning occasionally, until tender and lightly charred. Transfer to a plate.

child_care Set aside a few plain asparagus spears for the child.
6

In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter with the lemon juice and minced garlic, stirring for 2 minutes until fragrant. Do not let it boil.

child_care Skip the garlic in the child's portion of butter.
7

Serve the salmon and asparagus drizzled with the lemon butter sauce.

child_care For the child, serve plain salmon and asparagus with a small dish of plain melted butter on the side.
