Serve one un-sauced cabbage roll sliced into small pieces with a side of plain rice and a spoonful of tomato sauce on the side for dipping.

Recipe

1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat.

2

Carefully remove 8 large outer leaves from the cabbage and boil them for 3 minutes until pliable. Drain and set aside to cool.

child_care Set aside one plain boiled cabbage leaf for the child to nibble.
3

Cook the rice according to package directions (about 15 minutes) until tender, then drain and let cool slightly.

child_care Reserve 2 tablespoons of plain cooked rice for the child's plate.
4

Preheat the oven to 180°C.

5

In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the diced onion and minced garlic in oil for 3 minutes until softened. Transfer to a bowl.

child_care Remove a small spoonful of cooked onion for the child before adding garlic.
6

Mix the ground beef, cooked rice, sautéed onion and garlic, marjoram, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp pepper until combined.

7

Place about 3 tablespoons of filling on each cabbage leaf, fold in the sides, and roll tightly. Place seam-side down in a baking dish.

child_care Make one mini roll with less filling for the child.
8

In a small bowl, stir together crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, remaining salt and pepper, and 100 ml water. Pour over the rolls. Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes until the internal temperature of the rolls reaches 75°C. Serve with a dollop of sour cream.

child_care Before adding sour cream, set aside one roll for the child and cut into small pieces.
